Uruguay international Rodrigo Bentancur has praised teammate Gianluigi Buffon for his role in making him feel welcome at Juventus and believes he is improving as a player in Turin.

The 20-year-old arrived at Juve as part of the deal which saw Carlos Tevez move back to his native Argentina with Boca Juniors in 2015, and the midfielder has settled into life well in Turin.

As reported by Football Italia, Bentancur said: “Since I’ve been in Italy, my recovery times have improved and I am slowly getting better as a player too.

“For example, they have already worked on the way I mark opponents. Since coming here, I have also put on 5kg of muscle.”

However, it was not just the footballing side of proceeding which have helped Bentancur settle in so well at Juve, but the way his teammates have helped him, with the legendary figure Buffon setting the tone on the Uruguayan’s very first day at the club.

“On my first day, Buffon received me in this incredible way. He surprised me, as he knew who I was, he knew my name. He’s a phenomenon and always gives me advice. Buffon is on another level.”

Juventus have begun their Serie A season in fine form, dropping only two points out of their opening seven matches. However, they still sit second in the table behind Napoli, who have won each of their seven league games.

Juve will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they face off against Lazio on Saturday evening. Lazio are currently sitting at fourth in the table, three points behind Juventus.
