Borussia Dortmund Chief Reveals Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Signed New Deal in Secret

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc may well have unveiled slightly more than he would have liked in a recent interview, casually revealing that striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had secretly extended his contract with the club for a further year some time ago.

To the public's knowledge, the Gabon international was tied down at the Signal Iduna Park until 2020, a deal which was struck two-and-a-half years ago.

However, as the 55-year-old discussed a wide range of topics with Sky Sport Germany

regarding BVB, he let slip that the 28-year-old had devoted himself to the North Rhine-Westphalia outfit for a further 12 months.

It was thought the year 2021 may well have simply been a mistake, however, according to Sky Sports, Aubameyang indeed signed on the dotted line for an extended period in secret some time ago.

The intricate details of the most recent deal are unknown, but it is expected that alongside making his stay longer in Dortmund the talisman will have also been on the receiving end of a pay rise.

Much has been made over the future of the AC Milan academy graduate, with a move to the Premier League touted during the last two transfer windows.

But with Aubameyang actually having over three years remaining on his current deal compared to the previously thought two, it is likely a higher fee will be expected in order for BVB to allow their man to leave the Signal Iduna Park.

The France-born talisman has netted 21 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but was not enough to aid his side from crashing out of this year's Champions League earlier this month, with BVB now set for Europa League action come the turn of the year.
