Tottenham (10–4–0) enters the contest fifth in the league standings with 30 points through 14 matches. Spurs went unbeaten across all competitions in November, charging into the league's top four prior to being overtaken by Arsenal, which defeated them 4–2 in Sunday's North London Derby.
Southampton (1–7–6) has teetered near the relegation zone throughout the start of the campaign, resulting in the ouster of Mark Hughes as manager and the hiring of Ralph Hasenhuttl. So far, the Saints have captured nine points through 14 games. Southampton most recently managed a draw against Manchester United, however the result came as somewhat of a disappointment after taking an early two-goal lead 20 minutes into the contest.
