Schalke hosts Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 matchup on Wednesday.

The matchup marks the third one pitting a Bundesliga side against a Premier League one in the round, with Liverpool drawing Bayern Munich 0-0 and Tottenham thrashing Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the previous two.

Man City will be looking to take a step toward the quarterfinals as it competes on three other fronts. It most recently advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals, it will play Chelsea for the League Cup final on Sunday and it is currently atop the Premier League table on a goal-differential tiebreaker, with second-place Liverpool even on points and possessing a game in hand.

Schalke, meanwhile, has endured a rough season in Germany but found success in Champions League. It sits in 14th place in the Bundesliga, winless in its last four league matches (0-2-2) but earned a second-place finish in a Champions League group that featured Porto, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow to reach the knockout stage.
