Wrexham Owner Ryan Reynolds Celebrated Team’s Second Straight Promotion With Emotional Tweet

Wrexham AFC is on the way up.

The Welsh soccer club, famously owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, officially secured its second promotion in as many years Saturday with a 6–0 shutout win over Forest Green. The Red Dragons will compete in League One next season, the third-highest league in England.

Reynolds, who bought the club along with McElhenney in November 2020, celebrated the big day with an emotional post on social media.

"A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney," Reynolds wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town!

"This is the ride of our lives."

It's been quite the ride for Reynolds, McElhenney and Wrexham fans over the last three-plus years.

Wrexham finished eight in the National League standings in their first season of ownership. The Red Dragons narrowly missed out on promotion in the 2021–22 campaign but advanced to EFL League Two by finishing first in the standings with a record 111 points last season.

With the win over Forest Green on Saturday, Wrexham locked in a top-three finish in League Two and a place in League One next year. They currently sit second in the standings with 82 points, trailing Stockport FC (86 points).

There are only two leagues that rank above EFL League One in the English football system—the EFL Championship and the Premier League.
