Gianni Infantino Issues Bizarre Response to Resignation Question

FIFA president Gianni Infantino responded to a bald reporter asking him outright why he refuses to resign his position with the bizarre line: “I’ll see you at the hairdressers.”
Infantino is facing enormous pressure to step down from the job of leading soccer’s world governing body. It follows a failed attempt to launch the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which intended to sell off stakes in future World Cup tournaments to private investors.
People are also still talking about the decision to suspend a red-card ban due to be served during the 2026 World Cup by USMNT striker Folarin Balogun, seemingly after political interference from the U.S. President, Donald Trump.
UEFA, the AFC and Concacaf all stand opposed to Infantino and hold enough collective voting power to oust him in the event of a vote of no confidence. It has been suggested that the former UEFA executive is being afforded the opportunity to walk away of his own volition, rather than be forced out. But Infantino is refusing to even acknowledge that there is a problem.
Infantino Clinging to FIFA Presidency

Infantino flew into the Dominican Republic on Friday, having been invited to the Caribbean Football Union under-14s tournament by Concacaf before the FFE storm turned the confederation against him. He was asked in a letter sent by Concacaf president Victor Montagliani to “reconsider your attendance as it will undermine” the tournament.
Infantino was tracked down in the Caribbean nation by Sky News reporter James Matthews, who seemingly posed as a fan wanting a picture to catch the president off guard before introducing himself as a journalist and opening fire with questions.
Matthews twice asked, “Have you betrayed the game of [soccer]?” and then bluntly followed up with “Why won’t you resign?”
Not getting an answer as Infantino climbed into a waiting car, he added “Fans, FIFA [member] associations want you to step down, why won’t you? Have you betrayed the trust of FIFA, sir?”
As soon as he realized what was happening, Infantino—himself without hair—joked: “You have a nice haircut.” He repeatedly said “thank you very much” as he neared the car. Then, as security personnel prepared to close the door, Infantino turned back towards Matthews and finished with another hair-related joke: “I’ll see you at the hairdressers.”
Even with the public backing of Trump, it feels like only a matter of time before Infantino ends up stripped of the FIFA presidency.
