Phil Parkinson admits there are “no guarantees” Wrexham will sign more players before the summer transfer deadline on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Wrexham have recruited three players so far this summer and handed all three home debuts in Saturday’s 1–1 draw against Watford. Anthony Patterson started in goal, while wingback Danny Imray scored his first goal for the club and midfielder Ben Whiteman impressed in the heart of midfield.

The trio provided further evidence that Wrexham’s patient approach to the transfer window could pay off. Sports Illustrated understands the Red Dragons would still like to sign a center back and another attacker during the final 10 days of the window, though Parkinson has warned that further additions are far from a certainty given the caliber of players the club is targeting in order to achieve its goals.

Speaking after Wrexham were held by Watford, Parkinson provided an update on the club’s transfer plans as they look to add more quality to the squad whilst still possible.

Asked how many players he wanted to sign, the Wrexham manager replied: “I don’t really want to put a number on it. We are working towards several options. I had a great chat with Rob and Ryan before the game, and Mike [Williamson] and Shaun [Harvey].

We know what we are trying to achieve, but we are competing for players, with top teams trying to get those players as well. They’re the kind of difference-making players we want.

“But when you’re in that kind of battle for those players, youve got a lot of challenges in terms of other clubs trying to take them. We are working as hard as we can, and hopefully we will make good progress in the final 10 days of the transfer window.”

Parkinson was also quick to stress that Wrexham dont want to make signings just to add numbers. Instead, the focus remains on bringing in players capable of making a significant impact on a team that finished seventh in the EFL Championship last season.

He added: “You don’t want to make a signing for the sake of it. I think the three lads we have brought in, everyone can see what good players they are. We would like to add more quality if we can, but we have got players to come back into the group.

“There are no guarantees any signings come in; there really isn’t. The players we are competing for are wanted by other clubs in this division and other divisions around Europe.

“I think to improve what we’ve got, the standard of player we have got, you are looking at a level of really top Championship players. To get those is challenging because other teams want them or teams don’t want to sell them. We know what players we want, what positions. If we get them, great. If not, we have got players coming back off the treatment table, and we will keep building.”
