Biggest Upsets Of 2010 Wimbledon
Roger Federer wriggled out of big trouble in the early rounds, but he couldn't summon another escape act against 12th-seeded Tomas Berdych. The hard-hitting Berdych downed the six-time champion 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 as Federer failed to advance to the Wimbledon final for the first time since 2002.
Andy Roddick was broken only once -- the last game of the match. That's all the 82nd-ranked Yen-Hsun Lu needed to pull off a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 9-7 victory. Lu entered the tournament with a 6-18 record in majors.
Venus appeared to be on a Wimbledon final collision course with sister Serena, but No. 82 Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria spoiled those plans with a surprisingly routine 6-2, 6-3 victory. Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champion, sprayed 29 unforced errors compared to six for her unheralded opponent.
Two weeks after winning the French Open, Francesa Schiavone crashed out in the first round against Russian Vera Dushevina. The 47th-ranked Dushevina won 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-1 in nearly three hours on the first day of the tournament.
Unseeded Czech Petra Kvitova (left) needed only 46 minutes to dispatch third-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-0 to reach her first quarterfinal in a Grand Slam. Wozniacki won only six points on Kvitova's serve.
The eight-seeded Fernando Verdasco (left), who had made the round of 16 in three of the past four Wimbledons, fell to 80th-ranked Fabio Fognini of Italy 7-6 (9), 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-4.
Sam Stosur (left), the French Open runner-up earlier in June, lost to 80th-ranked qualifier Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
