Daily Bagel: Andy Murray closing in

The Daily Bagel is your dose of the interesting reporting, writing and quipping from around the Internet. • Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer took to the roof

The Daily Bagel is your dose of the interesting reporting, writing and quipping from around the Internet.

• Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer took to the roof of the Burj Al Arab, the fourth tallest hotel in the world, to engage in some awkward chit chat.

• Andy Murray believes he's closing the gap between himself and the Big 3. "I think there's no real big difference on hard courts," he said. "On the clay I definitely think I still need to improve a lot. On grass I just need a little bit of consistency."

• Janko Tipsarevic tells The Tennis Space that he regrets being a rebel. "I’ve had my ups and downs," Tipsarevic explains. "When I was a young player, my management company had me in a ‘rebel with a cause’ program. I’m not going to be recommending to these players that they try to be a tennis rebel, to be the guy who doesn’t give a damn. You have to sacrifice a lot if you want to make it as a tennis player."

Steve Tignor reflects on Manolo Orantes, who was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, and Jose Acasuso, who announced his retirement last week.

• Some fun tidbits from Memphis here from Bobby Chintipalli for Tennis.com.

• A look at the the effect of family interference in sports. Feliciano Lopez recounts a story from last Wimbledon. His father was sitting on the sidelines and clearly stressed out over the outcome of the match. Lopez walked over in the middle of a decisive tie-break and said: 'Dad, please, calm down.' "He's a very nervous guy," Lopez laughed.

• These pictures of Dominika Cibulkova and her boyfriend are sweet (and also humorous).

• Non-tennis: If you missed last night's Oscar awards, this Vuture write-up is a good place to start, as is Slate's fashion round-up.
