Daily Bagel: Tough love for Tomic

The Daily Bagel is your dose of the interesting reporting, writing and quipping from around the Internet.

• Video: Every single one of Serena Williams' 248 winners on her way to the Wimbledon title.

• Tennis Australia is taking a stand against Bernard Tomic. The Age reports that Tomic has been banned from Australia's first-round Davis Cup tie; the federation will cut his funding; and at the Newcombe Awards, a gala honoring the year's top performers, his name didn't come up once despite the fact that he was Australia's No. 1 for most of 2012 (Marinko Matosevic now holds that distinction, at No. 49, three spots ahead of Tomic). The question is whether these sort of hard-line tactics will work. Hanging the 20-year-old out to dry could end up galvanizing him in the wrong direction.

• Tomic responded to the report by insisting he was never meant to play the Davis Cup tie and that he had planned to use the time for training. In the same interview, he said he would be the best to play the game. So who knows.

• Abusive parents aren't new to tennis, but that doesn't mean incidents are any less shocking or disappointing. There's a report from the Orange Bowl that a junior player was allegedly struck by her father with a racket after losing a match.

• A report on American junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, who has learned to channel his anger by listening to speeches from Rocky Balboa. Hey, whatever works.

ESPN interviews Andy Murray, who weighs in on one of the big questions of our time -- Pacquiao or Mayweather?

• Steve Flink reports on Lars Graff's career change from umpire to ATP supervisor.

• An inside look at ATP University, where players get extensive media training.

• The Slice highlights the 12 most memorable style moments of 2012.
