Video: Top-seed Fabio Fognini abandons match in St. Petersburg

There are two sides to the unpredictable Fabio Fognini. There's the 16th-ranked Fognini who went on a 13-match win streak this summer to capture the first two ATP titles of his career and break into the top 20 for the first time. Then there's the overly dramatic hot-headed Fognini, who looks like he's putting in minimal effort to win a match and last month played one of the worst games of tennis you'll ever see while losing at the Western & Southern Open.

The latter showed up Thursday. Two points away from dropping his second-round match to No. 112 Michal Przysiezny at the St. Petersburg Open, the top-seeded Fognini abruptly retired from the match. Down 6-3, 5-3, he appeared to be angry about a line call that gave Przysenzny a game-ending ace in the previous game. Before serving to stay in the match, Fognini engaged in a long, drawn-out discussion with the umpire that delayed the action for more than a minute and incurred a point penalty (you can read a more detailed Spanish account of the match here).
