No. 27 Nicolas Almagro withdraws from the U.S. Open

No. 27 Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from the U.S. Open. The Spaniard retired with a foot injury in the first round of the French Open, down 0-5 to Jack Sock. He has not played a tournament since, skipping the entire grass season and Wimbledon.
Almagro posted these photos on Twitter this week, saying (via translation) "Today begins a tough road to recovery. Patience and labor will be my teammates." The photos appear to show an incision on the back of his left knee.

Dustin Brown, ranked No. 104, was the last main draw direct entry. With Almagro's withdrawal, No. 105 Damir Dzhumer would be the next man into the main draw.
