Li Na won't compete at the U.S. Open due to a knee injury, she announced Thursday on her Facebook page.

Li has been dealing with the injury since March and said she's been advised it's best to give her knee time to heal.

She was forced to withdraw from a tournament in Germany in April due to a left knee injury, though it's unclear if it's her left or right knee forcing her out now. Li played with her right knee taped up during Wimbledon.

The injury will also keep Li out of the WTA tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati that precede the U.S. Open. She will next compete at the Wuhan Open, which begins Sept. 22.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the world, Li won the Australian Open in January for her second career major title but lost in the first round of the French Open. She was eliminated in the third round at Wimbledon in June.

Li parted ways with coach Carlos Rodriguez shortly after her Wimbledon exit.
