MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Kei Nishikori of Japan beat South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4 Sunday in the Memphis Open championship, becoming the first man to win three straight titles at this tournament.

Nishikori improved to 13-1 here where Jimmy Connors failed not once but twice to win three straight titles at this indoor tournament. Tommy Haas and Todd Martin also missed out on a three-peat.

Ranked No. 5, Nishikori won his eighth career ATP title and first since Tokyo last year. He needed only 76 minutes to beat the second-seeded Anderson in their first career meeting on tour.

Nishikori played with a sore right wrist and a blister on his left pinkie toe. He got his left thumb taped during the first set before taking the $106,565 winner's check.
