U.S. Open Day 8 After Dark: Murray crushes Dimitrov, Konjuh upsets Radwanska

NEW YORK – A recap of Monday's Day 8 night session at the 2016 U.S. Open, including results, tweets, hot shots, photos and more.

One night after Novak Djokovic dismantled Kyle Edmund at Arthur Ashe Stadium, reminding everyone why he's ranked the No. 1 men's tennis player in the world, Andy Murray reminded us that he's playing better than anyone right now.

Murray, the No. 2 seed, dismantled No. 22 Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, where he'll face Kei Nishikori.

In the night session finale, Ana Konjuh upset No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets.

No. 2 Andy Murray d. No. 22 Grigor Dimitrov: After a shaky third–round match against Paolo Lorenzi, Andy Murray rebounded with a complete performance on Monday night, steamrolling Grigor Dimitrov to reach the quarterfinals. Dimitrov didn't play particularly well, of course, but the lopsided scoreline belongs solely to Murray's incredible play. Murray's court coverage was exceptional, and despite Dimitrov's powerful strokes, the Bulgarian only finished with 13 winners.

"Once I got up in the score, wasn't giving him any free points, I could sense it was getting tough for him," Murray said. "I just wanted to keep my foot on the gas, which I didn't really do the other day."

Murray said he felt Dimitrov "played his best," but Dimitrov disagreed.

"I didn't feel he played unbelievable tennis, but I felt I just did a lot of mistakes. For sure he has a lot of confidence right now, a lot of matches behind his back. For sure he knows how to play in moments like that. Pretty experienced player," Dimitrov said. "So, yeah, it's all my fault what happened on the court out there."

Dimitrov did say that Murray "right now is the best player out there."

Murray has now made the U.S. Open quarterfinals in five of the last six years. He's set to faceKeiNishikori, who beat Ivo Karlovic earlier on Monday. Murray is 7-1 all-time against Nishikori.

Ana Konjuh d. No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska: Only 18, Ana Konjuh is in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. In Labor Day's biggest upset, Konjuh upset the No. 4 seed 6-4, 6-4 in Monday's night session finale. It's a stunning achievement for a player that looks like a future star—or, if she keeps playing like this, a current star.

The match was a much different story than their meeting at Wimbledon this year, when Radwanska saved three match points to beat Konjuh in the second round.

"I'm real excited about my performance tonight. My serve was pretty good tonight," Konjuh said. "I don't think she had any answers."

Konjuh played inspired tennis on Monday, hitting 38 winners with 27 unforced errors. She'll face Karolina Pliskova—who upset Venus Williams on Monday—in the quarterfinals, and if she strikes her groundstrokes as well as she did against Radwanska, then look out.
