Sergei Bubka proposes 'complete review' of athletics

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) Sergei Bubka says he will undertake a ''complete review'' of track and field if elected president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The Ukranian pole vault great on Thursday announced some elements of his campaign manifesto, which he calls ''Vision 2025.''

Bubka, an IAAF vice president, is competing against British middle-distance great Sebastian Coe to succeed Lamine Diack as president. The election will be in August in Beijing on the eve of the world championships.

Bubka proposes ''the most thorough review ever taken into every aspect of athletics worldwide.''

He says the aim is to ''identify and examine every significant element of our sport and determine how it can be improved.''

Bubka's plans include creation of specialist working groups and a revamped World Athletics Gala.

He will formally launch his manifesto next Wednesday.
