INNSBRUCK, Austria (AP) The Austrian ski federation says Daniel Traxler will miss the upcoming ski cross season, including the world championships in March, after breaking his right upper leg in a training crash.

The federation says the 22-year-old Traxler underwent surgery at a clinic in Innsbruck late Wednesday, hours after the incident took place at the Passo dello Stelvio glacier in Italy.

The federation quotes Traxler as saying ''it's bitter having to miss the entire season as I was feeling very well physically.''

Once a promising Alpine skier, Traxler switched to ski cross after damaging his spine in a downhill training crash in 2011.

Last season, he was voted FIS Rookie of the Year by ski cross coaches after posting two top-10 finishes in his first full season on the World Cup tour.
