Seattle Storm win WNBA draft lottery
The Seattle Storm have won the 2014 WNBA draft lottery, earning the No. 1 pick for the first time since 2002.
The Tulsa Shock grabbed the No. 2 pick, while the Connecticut Sun will have both the third and fourth picks of the first round. The third pick is their own, and the fourth came from a trade with the New York Liberty in a swap involving Tina Charles.
Both the Storm and Shock tied for the worst record in the league, meaning they each equally had the best odds (about 36 percent each) to get the first pick. This season was the first time since 2003 that the Storm had missed the playoffs.
The last time the Storm selected first was in 2002, when it chose former Connecticut star Sue Bird, who has been the team's starting point guard ever since — with the exception of last season, which she missed after undergoing knee surgery.
The lottery results were announced on ESPN2 during halftime of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals series between the Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics.
