Breanna Stewart Breaks Liberty Scoring Record in Win Over Fever

Breanna Stewart already etched her name into the history books in her first home game with the Liberty on Sunday afternoon.

Stewart showed out during the team’s 90–73 win vs. the Fever, accumulating 45 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in just 30 minutes of play.

Her 45 points are a franchise record for the most points scored in a game by a Liberty player, besting the previous mark of 40 set by Cappie Pondexter in 2010. Stewart is also the first player in WNBA history to score over 40 points in her home debut, per ESPN. It was also a personal career record; her previous career-high was 38 points back in ’16.

Stewart outscored her entire team by nearly 30 points as the second-highest scorer was Jonquel Jones’s 14 points. The 28-year-old also adds her name to the list of WNBA single-game scoring leaders as she now is tied with Elena Delle Donne’s 45-point game with the Sky in 2015, according to Basketball Reference.

With Sunday’s win, the Liberty moves to 1–1 on the season.
