Following Notre Dame's 30–22 win over Georgia Tech. head coach Brian Kelly gave the game ball to Drue Tranquill, as seen in the upcoming episode of Showtime's A Season with Notre Dame Football show.

"The game ball goes to our defense, but I want to give it Drue Tranquill. I want to give it to him,” Kelly says in the show promo. “Drue set the tone in the way we played defensively in the first half. The way we need to play we need to play defensively. Playing as one. Playing together. Playing with one heartbeat. Playing with everything that he had. And on behalf of the whole defense, he's got the game ball."

The sophomore safety tore his ACL while celebrating a crucial third-down pass breakup in the end zone in the second half of the game.

Three and Out: Notre Dame proves it is still fierce in win over Georgia Tech

Tranquill is the latest Fighting Irish player to go down with an injury after the team has lost quarterback Malik Zaire (broken right ankle), running back Tarean Folston (torn right ACL), tight end Durham Smythe (torn right MCL), defensive tackle Jarron Jones (torn right MCL) and nickelback Shaun Crawford (torn ACL) in the first three weeks of the season.
