LSU has named interim Ed Orgeron its new head coach, the school announced on Saturday morning.

Ross Dellenger of The Advocate first reported the hiring.

Houston coach Tom Herman, the other finalist for the job, informed LSU late Friday night that he was leaning toward taking the job at Texas despite a $6 million offer, according to report. The Longhorns fired Charlie Strong on Saturday morning after a second straight 5–7 season.

Orgeron, 55, took over as interim coach of the Tigers after Les Miles was fired in late September after a crushing loss to Auburn. He led LSU to a 5–2 record.

Before that, he served as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.
