Hickey notes that right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija "may be the bait," but a report Friday night said the A's are not offering Samardzija in trades.

The A's went 88-74 last season and finished in second place in the American League East before losing the AL Wild Card game, while the Braves went 79-83 and finished in second place in the National League East.
