The Houston Astros have designated outfielder Carlos Gomez for assignment, general manager Jeff Luhnow told reporters Wednesday.

Pitcher Jandel Gutave has joined the team in Gomez’s roster spot. The Astros have 10 days to trade Gomez or release him if he clears waivers.

Once a top prospect with the Mets, Gomez joined the Astros in July 2015 after stints with the Twins and Brewers. Gomez was a two-time All-Star in Milwaukee, but failed to find the same success with Houston.

In 85 games this season, Gomez was hitting .210 with five home runs and 29 RBI. His on-base percentage was .272.

In his career, Gomez, 30, is a .256 hitter with a .310 OBP in nine-plus seasons.
