Blue Jays place Jose Bautista on 15-day DL with knee sprain

The Blue Jays have placed rightfielder Jose Bautista on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee sprain, the team announced Wednesday.

Bautista underwent an MRI on Wednesday after hurting his knee during Toronto’s loss to the Rays on Tuesday. Bautista sustained the injury after getting his feet caught in the turf during a defensive play in right.

Bautista has played in 80 games for the Blue Jays so far this season. He is hitting .222 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. 

Toronto called up Junior Lake from the Buffalo Bisons to take Bautista’s roster spot until Bautista can return to action.
