Houston also received forward Alonzo Gee and New Orleans' 2015 protected first-round pick. In addition to Asik, who the Rockets had long been trying to trade, the Pelicans picked up forward Omri Casspi and $1.5 million from Houston. Washington got an $8.5 million trade exception and Melvin Ely's unguaranteed contract.

Earlier on Sunday, the Rockets declined to match the Mavericks' offer sheet to swingman Chandler Parsons.

Ariza, a 10-year veteran, averaged 14.4 points and a career-high 6.2 rebounds per game last season for Washington, which advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2005 and only the second time since 1982.
