Hornets center Al Jefferson does not plan to opt out of his current contract with the team, he told reporters on Thursday.

In July 2013, Jefferson signed a three-year contract worth $40.5 million, with a player option for the final year. Jefferson could exercise that option this off-season and become a free agent.

The 2015-16 season will be his third year in Charlotte and his twelfth in the NBA.

Charlotte had a 43-39 record and made the playoffs in Jefferson's first season with the team. The Hornets had playoff aspirations in 2014-2015 after signing Lance Stephenson in the offseason, but they finished with a 33-49 record and missed the postseason.

Jefferson averaged 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds over 65 games with the Hornets this season.
