Lakers to honor Shaquille O’Neal with statue outside Staples Center

Shaq got some big news on Wednesday night from a surprising source, when Jimmy Kimmel surprised the NBA legend with the news that the Lakers planned to unveil a statue of him outside the Staples Center.

The Lakers have announced plans for a statue honoring Shaquille O’Neal outside the Staples Center to be unveiled at some point next season.

Shaq heard the news on Wednesday night while on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the NBA legend was surprised with the news that he would be joining legends like Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson outside the stadium.

Given Kimmel’s penchant for pranks, O’Neal was reticent to believe the news at first, but eventually accepted that the honor was real. O’Neal played for Los Angeles from eight seasons, earning an MVP and three NBA titles with the team.
