New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Cunningham was arrested last month by New Jersey authorities, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

Police charged him with third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree invasion of privacy and fourth-degree unlawful weapon transport.

In the late afternoon on Dec. 29, police responded to a call in Summit, N.J. after a report of domestic dispute at Cunningham's home.

Cunningham allegedly tampered with clothing belonging to a former resident of the home, a woman who Cunningham dated. He has also been accused of spreading sexual images without proper consent.

When police arrived on scene, they also found a loaded .380-caliber handgun in the glove compartment of Cunningham's car. Police seized the weapon.

Cunningham was arrested, processed and released without bail. The linebacker is expected to appear in court within the next few weeks, according to the release.

The Jets declined to comment to NJ.com, saying it is a a pending legal matter.

Cunningham did not play this season after tearing his Achilles in August.

He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft by the New England Patriots and appeared in 36 games with New England, recording 3.5 sacks, before being cut during training camp in 2013.

He signed with Jets in November 2013 and will be a free agent in March.
