Thursday July 30th, 2015

The Kansas City Chiefs open training camp on July 29. The first practice open to fans is on Aug. 1. Camp breaks on Aug. 20.

The Chiefs missed the playoffs in 2014 despite finishing the season with a 9-7 record.

Alex Smith enters his third season as the team's starting quarterback in 2015. While he has continued his run of success that began under Jim Harbaugh in 2011, Smith's limitations have also hamstrung Kansas City's offense. Smith hasn't thrown more than seven interceptions in a season since 2010, but last year he rarely threw the ball more than 20 yards in the air, and the Chiefs' wide receivers combined for zero touchdown receptions.

Kansas City added Jeremy Maclin this offseason to help open up its offense vertically. The defense, led by defensive end Justin Houston, was one of the best in the NFL last season, and added cornerback Marcus Peters in the first round of the draft.
