San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen could miss the remainder of the season due to a kidney injury, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribunereported that Allen is definitely out for the season and will be placed on the injured reserve list, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Allen left Sunday’s 29–26 loss against the Baltimore Ravens with muscle spasms after catching a 13-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone just before halftime. Allen appeared shaken up after the play and did not return to the game. Before leaving the game, Allen had recorded five catches for 35 yards.

Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said Monday that Allen would miss some time with the kidney injury. The third-year pro later underwent a procedure on his kidney.

Allen, 23, ranks second in the NFL with 67 receptions and third with 725 receiving yards this season.

A third round selection by the Chargers in the 2013 draft, Allen broke his collarbone and dealt with an ankle injury last season.

Dontrelle Inman is listed behind Allen on the Chargers’ depth chart.

The Chargers (2–6) will host the Chicago Bears (2–5) at Qualcomm Stadium on Monday Night Football.
