Cam Newton tied the NFL record for most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback Sunday.

Newton entered Week 17 with 41 scores on the ground, two behind hall-of-famer Steve Young. He tied Young’s record on a one-yard rush in the third quarter, which gave the Panthers a 31–3 lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Newton tied Young’s record in 78 games over five seasons. The former San Francisco 49er legend compiled his 43 rushing touchdowns in 169 games.

Newton has thrived on the ground and through the air this season. Entering Sunday, Newton had a 97.0 passer rating with 33 passing touchdowns and eight scores on the ground. He added to both of those totals against Tampa Bay.
