Report: Tom Brady won’t speak for Trump at Republican convention

Tom Brady will not attend the Republican National Convention in support of Donald Trump, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Earlier reports had indicated Brady would attend after Trump invited Brady to speak for him at the convention during a speech at a rally in June.
In the same speech, Trump also mentioned UFC president Dana White, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and former Indiana coach Bobby Knight as sports figures he hoped would come out in support of him.
“We’re going to do it a little different, if it’s okay,” Trump said in June. “I’m thinking about getting some of the great sports people who like me a lot ... Our country needs to see winners. We don’t see winners anymore. We have a bunch of clowns running this country. We have people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing running our country.”
Trump has repeatedly touted his friendship with Brady on the campaign trail. At one point last season, Brady displayed one of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats in his locker, though Brady hasn’t endorsed Trump.
Bloomberg reported that former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka were expected to speak for Trump at the convention, but Ditka has since declined the invitation. Trump later claimed that he never invited Tyson to speak.
The convention will be held in Cleveland from July 18 to 21.
