49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman will miss the rest of the season after injuring his Achilles tendon, the team announced Monday.
Bowman was injured Sunday and initial tests showed that the injury could be season-ending. Further tests Monday confirmed the diagnosis.
Bowman, a three-time Pro Bowler and four-time First-Team All-Pro choice, missed the 2014 season after tearing his ACL and MCL in the 2013 NFC Championship Game. He returned last season, played in all 16 of San Francisco’s games and was a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro selection.
Bowman signed a four-year, $77 million contract extension before the season. He is under contract through 2022.
