Flyers’ Wayne Simmonds, Andrew MacDonald out for rest of season

Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds and defenseman Andrew MacDonald will miss the rest of the season with injuries, general manager Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday.

The team said Simmonds has a lower-body injury and MacDonald has an upper-body injury. Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly reports Simmonds has a fractured left leg and McDonald has a fractured right hand.

Simmonds, 26, scored his team-leading 28th goal of the season during Wednesday’s win over the Blackhawks. He is also third on the team with 49 points.

The 28-year-old MacDonald has two goals and 10 assists this season.

The Flyers are 30-29-16, nine points behind the Senators for the final playoff Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia hosts San Jose on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
