Ducks goalie John Gibson honors Donkey Kong with new mask.

The original Donkey Kong was released in 1981. Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson wasn’t born for another 12 years.

This minor detail hasn’t stopped Gibson from becoming an ardent fan of Donkey Kong, which he decided to honor on his new mask that’s basically as awesome of a goalie mask as we’ve seen since….Gibson’s last Nintendo-inspired face protector.

With appearances from Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Duck Hunter and now Donkey Kong on Gibson’s masks, it looks like Super Mario may be on the clock. Or perhaps Mega Man.
