Roma and Real Madrid meet on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League’s round of 16.

Against Madrid, Roma will attempt to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time since the 2007–08 season. Though Madrid, which finished without a loss in the group stage, is the favorite, it has not defeated an Italian team in its last eight knockout matches of European cup play.

Roma, which completed the group stage in second place despite winning just once in six matches, enters Wednesday’s first leg match off four straight wins in Serie A. It will meet a Madrid squad that led the group stage in scoring with 19 goals, including 11 from star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
