La Liga has denounced the anti-gay slurs directed toward Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo during Saturday’s El Clasico against Barcelona, according to the Associated Press.
Ronaldo scored the game-winning goal in the closing minutes of the match to give Real Madrid a 2–1 advantage.
The league expressed its discontent with the anti-gay slurs that were directed at Ronaldo, which were heard as a moment of silence was held for Dutch soccer legend Johan Cruyff. Gay rights groups in Spain have also denounced the slurs.
An LGBT rights group in Spain has asked for the government to look into and take action against the individuals who yelled the chants.
