The U.S. national team has filled the remaining hole in its fall schedule with an Oct. 14 game against Honduras. The friendly, announced Friday afternoon, will be played at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. It will be the senior national side’s first visit to the facility located about 45 miles north of Miami.

The Honduras match will follow the Oct. 10 game against Ecuador in East Hartford, Conn., where Landon Donovan is scheduled to make his final international appearance. The retiring legend won’t accompany the U.S. to Florida.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann will have access to his entire player pool, since the Oct. 6-14 international window is on FIFA’s official calendar. The major European leagues will go dark as the continent’s national teams continue qualifying for Euro 2016, so the U.S. coach’s only selection headache will come from potential conflicts with MLS, which has a full slate of games the weekend of Oct. 11-12. Both the Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City, which supply key players to the U.S., have matches scheduled on Oct. 10.

Youth abounds on USMNT squad for friendly against Czech Republic

Honduras is a familiar U.S. foe and was one of four CONCACAF nations to qualify for this summer’s World Cup. It was also the only one that failed to advance from the group stage. Los Catrachos lost to France, Switzerland and Ecuador by a combined 8-1 and dropped 10 places to 43rd in the FIFA World Ranking.

The U.S. is 14-4-3 all-time vs. Honduras. The countries met three times last year – twice in World Cup qualifying (a home-and-home split) and then at the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal outside Dallas, where the U.S. won, 3-1, on goals by Donovan (two) and Eddie Johnson.

Klinsmann will lead a team comprised mostly of European-based players out against the Czech Republic next Wednesday in Prague. The 22-man squad, announced Thursday, features 10 holdovers from the World Cup team along with six uncapped players. The U.S. also is scheduled to visit Dublin for a game against Ireland on Nov. 18.
