Sheldon Adelson Spokesperson Says Casino Mogul Has 'No Interest in Buying' Mets

A spokesperson for billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson told Charles Gasparino of Fox Business that the casino mogul isn't interested in buying the Mets.

On Wednesday, the New York Post reported that Adelson and private equity firm Silver Lake were involved in the bidding for the team, joining a group led by current Sixers and Devils owner Josh Harris.

But Silver Lake denied interest in the Mets ownership.

“Any claim that Silver Lake is making or joining a bid for the NY Mets is entirely false and inaccurate," the company said in a statement to SI.

The Mets announced in December 2019 that owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon were looking to sell the team. Billionaire Steve Cohen reportedly offered $2 billion in the first round of bids, while Rodriguez's group bid $1.7 billion. NFL players Brian Urlacher, Travis Kelce and DeMarco Murray have recently joined Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez in their bid for the Mets.

The Mets are currently valued at $2.4 billion, according to Forbes. They are the sixth most-valuable franchise in MLB.

This story has been updated to reflect that Adelson and Silver Lake denied interest in joining a bid to buy the Mets.
