Report: Capitals to host Blackhawks in 2015 Winter Classic

Friday June 20th, 2014

The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Washington Capitals in next season's Winter Classic, according to a report from The Canadian Press.

The Blackhawks hosted the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field in 2009, and participated in last season's Stadium Series beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 at Soldier Field in March before a crowd of 62,921. The Capitals beat the Penguins 3–1 in the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

The 2015 Winter Classic is expected to take place at Nationals Park, but the Washington D.C. area has at least three other suitable venues where the game could take place: RFK Stadium; FedEx Field, the home of the NFL's Washington Redskins; or even Camden Yards in Baltimore.

According to various reports, the league will have two outdoor games in the 2014-15 season instead of the six played last season.
