Just because the FedEx Cup Playoffs are set to begin on the PGA Tour this week, and we're down to the final 70 golfers competing for this season's championship, doesn't mean that there's no hope for the long shots and dark horses. In fact, just last year Justin Rose won the FedEx St. Jude Championship at 100-1 odds.

If you're looking for a few long-shot golfers to back this week, you're in the right place. Let's dive into three of my favorites.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Dark Horse Picks

J.J. Spaun +5900 (DraftKings)

In my full betting preview, I made the case for betting on J.J. Spaun at 59-1:

J.J. Spaun is a boom-or-bust golfer, but with him returning to an event he finished runner-up at last season, he should feel plenty of confidence when he tees it up this week. He's seventh in the field in strokes-gained tee to green over the past three months. Whether or not he can compete this week will come down to his putting, but as we've seen from him over the past two years, if he gets the putter rolling, he'll be in contention. He's worth a look at 55-1.

Alex Fitzpatrick +9400 (DraftKings)

Alex Fitzpatrick was one of the most popular bets last week, but he seems to be forgotten this week. Sure, I wouldn't be betting on him if he was listed at 30-1 or 40-1, but he's listed at 94-1 despite being one of the best statistical golfers on the PGA Tour this summer. Over the past three months, he's fifth on the PGA Tour in strokes-gained tee to green. His short game needs to wake up, but I'm certainly willing to be a flusher of the golf ball at 94-1 and hope his chipping and putting round into form.

Ryan Fox +15500 (DraftKings)

All Ryan Fox did the last time he teed it up was win the British Open in one of the most clutch finishes we've seen in recent major history. Despite that, he has some of the longest odds in the field. It's not like his win was his only strong result this season. He had a couple of other impressive finishes, including a T7 finish at The Genesis Invitational, an elevated event. Based on his last performance alone, I'm willing to take a shot on him at 155-1.
