2026 MLB Playoff Odds for Every Team (Padres, Red Sox Rising, AL West Race Is a Toss Up)

Breaking down the playoff odds for every MLB team ahead of the 10-game slate on Monday, Aug. 24 with the San Diego Padres now holding a wild card spot.

Playoff spots are still up for grabs in both the American and National League as we get closer to the final month of the regular season, but there are several teams that appear to have locked up a spot.

According to FanGraphs, five teams in the National League and three teams in the American League have over a 90 percent chance to make the postseason, leaving very few slots open, especially when it comes to the AL wild card race.

Since all three teams with over a 90 percent chance to make the playoffs are in the AL East, only one wild card spot is truly up for grabs down the stretch. Still, there is betting value to be found in the playoff markets, especially since seven teams in the AL are within 3.5 games of the final wild card spot.

Each week for the rest of the 2026 season, the SI Betting team will examine the MLB playoff odds to help recap the last week of action and give some insight into which teams may be undervalued in their odds to make the postseason.

The National League picture is much more set than the American League, but there’s still plenty of time for a dark horse team to make a run.

Here’s a full breakdown of the playoffs odds, and a few teams that I’d wager on to get into the final field in October.

2026 American League Playoff Odds

Division Leaders

  • Tampa Bay Rays: -20000
  • Chicago White Sox: -500
  • Houston Astros: +100

Tampa Bay is one of two teams in the American League with a 100 percent chance to make the playoffs, according to FanGraphs, and it has a three-game lead over New York (the other team) in the AL East.

Both the Rays and Chicago White Sox are in strong positions to win their respective divisions, especially since Chicago has jumped all the way from -200 two weeks ago to -500 to make the playoffs. Chicago has a 3.5-game cushion over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central.

There isn’t much value in either of those division leaders to make the playoffs, but there could be without the Houston Astros (+100) who are tied atop the AL West with the Texas Rangers. Houston has fallen in the latest odds to make the playoffs, as oddsmakers truly believe this division is a toss up with the final month of the season ahead.

FanGraphs is giving Houston a 38.4 percent chance to win the division and a 46.8 percent chance to make the playoffs – both slightly ahead of Texas. They are priced that way in the market as well, as Texas is +120 to make the playoffs. Houston has a slightly easier schedule to close out the season, per Tankathon, but the team to watch may be the Seattle Mariners.

Seattle has underachieved in 2026, but it has the easiest remaining schedule in MLB with 14 combined games against the Los Angeles Angels and the Athletics still left. Seattle is +180 to make the playoffs, but FanGraphs is giving it a 26.9 percent chance to win the AL West.

AL Wild Card Race

  • New York Yankees: -2000
  • Boston Red Sox: -3000
  • Texas Rangers: +120
  • Cleveland Guardians: +160
  • Seattle Mariners: +180
  • Toronto Blue Jays: +210
  • Minnesota Twins: +400
  • Baltimore Orioles: +500
  • Detroit Tigers: +800
  • Athletics: +3500
  • Los Angeles Angels: +3500
  • Kansas City Royals: +3500

Both the Yankees (-10000 to -20000) and Red Sox (-1300 to -3000) have seen their odds to make the playoffs skyrocket by winning the majority of their last 10 games. New York has a 9.5-game cushion on the final wild card spot while Boston has a 6.5-game lead and both teams have over a 98 percent chance to make the playoffs.

So, who will be the final wild card team?

Right now, the odds say that either Texas or Houston has the best chance depending upon who wins the AL West, but the Clevelnad Guardians (+230 to +160) and Seattle Mariners (+310 to +180) have both improved their position in recent weeks.

The Toronto Blue Jays have also made a push and have the second-easiest remaining schedule in the league. Toronto is +210 to make the postseason, but it’s just 1.5 games out of the final playoff spot.

Even though the Blue Jays sold at the deadline, they may have the best value in the odds even though FanGraphs has set them at just an 18.8 percent chance to reach the postseason. The Jays have essentially swapped spots with the Detroit Tigers, who have fallen way back in the odds after losing five games in a row.

2026 National League Playoff Odds

Division Leaders

  • Milwaukee Brewers: -20000
  • Los Angeles Dodgers: -20000
  • Atlanta Braves: -20000

Milwaukee, Atlanta and Los Angeles remain in the driver’s seat to win their respective divisions, though a recent Philadelphia win streak has shortened Atlanta’s division lead to just three games.

Still, the Dodgers (+170), Brewers (+850), Braves (+1400) and Chicago Cubs (+1400 as the second place team in the NL Central) and Phillies (+1400) make up five of the top eight spots in the odds to win the World Series.

The interesting thing to watch amongst these teams is the race for the No. 1 seed, especially now that the Dodgers have won six games in a row and have jumped back ahead of the Braves in the standings. L.A. is just one game back of Milwaukee entering Monday’s action.

NL Wild Card Race

  • Chicago Cubs: -5000
  • Philadelphia Phillies: -1400
  • San Diego Padres: -295
  • Arizona Diamondbacks: +175
  • Miami Marlins: +1100
  • St. Louis Cardinals: +2000
  • Washington Nationals: +3500
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: +3500
  • Cincinnati Reds: +3500
  • San Francisco Giants: +3500
  • New York Mets: +3500
  • Colorado Rockies: +5000

A massive nine-game winning streak by the Philadelphia Phillies has tightened things atop the NL wild card race, but several teams have also fallen completely out of the picture.

Pittsburgh, Washington, St. Louis and Miami are all at least +1100 or longer to make the playoffs, even though the Marlins are only four games out of the final spot. Meanwhile, Arizona has gone from being favored to make the postseason to +175, as it is two games back of San Diego for the final spot.

Since the division leaders are all sitting on pretty solid leads in the NL, it seems that only the San Diego wild card spot is truly up for grabs. FanGraphs has given the Padres a 60 percent chance to secure that while Arizona is clearly the next closest team with a 30.8 percent chance.
