The Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals both enjoyed a win in the first week of the NFL Preseason. The Bears beat the Browns by a score of 34-10, while the Bengals squeaked by the Lions, winning 16-14.

The two teams will face each other in Week 2, but don't expect to see many, if any, starters in the game. The two teams enjoyed several joint practices against each other this week in which the starters took on a heavy workload. As a result, expect Saturday's preseason game to largely feature young players and backups.

Even with that being the case, there's still an opportunity for us to place a bet. Let's dive into it.

Bears vs. Bengals Betting Trends

  • Ben Johnson is 3-0-1 straight up and 2-1-1 against the spread as a head coach in the preseason
  • Zac Taylor is 5-14 straight up and 4-15 against the spread as a head coach in the preseason

Bears vs. Bengals Key Player to Watch

  • Zavion Thomas, WR - Chicago Bears

Zavion Thomas, the Bears' third-round draft pick out of LSU, didn't make an appearance in the Bears' first preseason game due to a knee injury he had suffered during practice. Thomas has returned to action and is expected to make his preseason debut against the Bengals. The speedy playmaker is likely to get some reps at both wide receiver and as a kick returner. The speedster ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the NFL Draft Combine.

Bears vs. Bengals Prediction and Best Bet

The Cincinnati Bengals have been a great team to fade in the preseason in the Zac Taylor era. It's clear that he uses these games purely as an evaluation tool and doesn't care much about winning the games, let alone covering the spread. The Bengals beat the Lions 16-14 last week, but they failed to cover the spread as 6.5-point favorites.

Meanwhile, we have a developing situation in Chicago as Ben Johnson has made it clear he certainly cares about winning these exhibition matchups.

With no starters likely to play in this game, I'll back the coach I have a lot more faith in putting toward an effort to win this game.
