UPDATE: Anthony Davis will return on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets.

UPDATE: Anthony Davis has been upgraded to questionable on Monday.

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis appears to be nearing a return from his left adductor strain, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

On Monday, the Mavs upgraded Davis to doubtful for their matchup with the Brooklyn Nets. While Davis doesn't seem to be in line to return for this game (Dallas is a one-point underdog at DraftKings Sportsbook), this is a step in the right direction for the All-Star big man.

Davis played in just one game for the Mavs after being acquired in the Luka Doncic trade before doing down with this injury. With Dallas also losing Kyrie Irving (torn ACL) for the season, it has slipped out of the play-in tournament field and into the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference.

A return from Davis could bring the Mavs back into the picture, but Dallas may also want to be careful about pushing the All-Star forward since it isn't going to make any playoff noise this season.

The Mavs have dropped eight of their last 10 games and are 29th in the league in net rating over that stretch. While a Davis return -- which could happen on this road trip -- would be a huge boost, there are still a ton of holes on the roster with Irving, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II also out of the lineup.
