Lakers NBA Championship Odds Crater on Luka Doncic Injury Update

The glimmer of hope that betting odds provided Los Angeles Lakers fans this morning in the wake of Luka Doncic’s hamstring injury on Thursday night has been completely extinguished. In its place is only gloom and doom.

The season might be over.

The Lakers were +3000 at DraftKings to win the NBA Championship earlier this morning. After Shams Charania reported Doncic is out indefinitely, however, their odds dropped all the way to +10000 on DraftKings.

The Lakers were fourth in the odds to win the Western Conference before the injury, but are now sixth at +6000 at FanDuel, behind the Thunder, Spurs, Nuggets, Timberwolves and Rockets.

The Lakers already secured a top-six seed in the Western Conference playoffs and won’t have to qualify via the play-in game. Their first playoff game won’t be until April 18 at the earliest.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is the Lakers are only one game up on the surging Nuggets for the three seed and are only three games up in the loss column for the sixth seed. We know Doncic is out for the regular season, but these odds suggest he could miss the first round too.

The Lakers will face the Nuggets, Rockets or Timberwolves in the first round. Those teams are a combined 22-8 in their last 10 games, with the Nuggets riding a seven-game winning streak and the Rockets on four in a row.

The T-Wolves and Rockets are the biggest winners on the oddsboard. The Timberwovles moved from +4500 to win the title to +3500 and the Rockets went from +7500 to +5500.

Doncic was +1500 to win NBA MVP before getting injured, third on the oddsboard. He has now been pulled from the odds.
