Top Shelf Picks: NHL Best Bets Today (Predictions for Red Wings-Flyers, Canadiens-Rangers, Mammoth-Kraken)

In this story:
There were just three NHL games last night, but we cashed a pick in each one. The Canucks won by two to easily cover the +2.5 puck line, the Sharks scored late to go over in San Jose, and it was a low-scoring game in Los Angeles.
I’m looking at a pair of favorites and a low-scoring game in New York for my picks tonight.
Read on as I break down my NHL best bets – and their odds at the best betting sites – for Thursday, April 2.
NHL Best Bets for Thursday, April 2
Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook
- Philadelphia Flyers (-115) vs. Detroit Red Wings
- Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers UNDER 6.5 (-120)
- Utah Mammoth (-135) at Seattle Kraken
Philadelphia Flyers (-115) vs. Detroit Red Wings
The Flyers host the Red Wings in an important game in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Each team has 86 points in 74 games, with the Red Wings fading and the Flyers, well, flying.
Philadelphia is 8-2-1 in its last 11 games, including a 5-3 win in Detroit last weekend. Going back a bit further, the Flyers are 12-4-1 in their last 17 games with a 52-42 goal differential.
On the flip side, Detroit has lost two straight, four of five, and is 4-7-2 since March 4.
The Flyers had a solid effort on Tuesday night in Washington, and I think they can do that again, but get two points this time on home ice.
Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers UNDER 6.5 (-120)
The Canadiens have tightened things up defensively recently, which has helped them win six games in a row.
They’ve outscored teams 25-9 in that span, allowing a single goal in each of their last four games. It’s worth noting that 12 of those 25 goals came in their first two games, and the Habs have scored just 13 goals in their last four contests.
The Rangers have also allowed just one goal in each of their last three games, and them scoring more than three goals in a game is an anomaly.
Utah Mammoth (-135) at Seattle Kraken
The Kraken had just one day off after a long six-game road trip before hosting the Mammoth in their first home game in over two weeks tonight. Seattle won just one game on that road trip, which is its only win in its last seven games overall.
Meanwhile, the Mammoth opened their road trip with a 6-2 win in Los Angeles and have had four days off since that victory.
The Mammoth have had no problem winning on the road (19-16-3) and the Kraken haven’t been great at home (17-14-5). Utah is the better team and should be a bigger favorite tonight.
