Red Sox vs. Astros Prediction, Odds, Probable Pitchers, Prop Bets for Wednesday, April 1

Can the Red Sox snap a four-game skid?

It’s been a rough start to the 2026 season for the Boston Red Sox, as they’ve dropped four games in a row and are in danger of being swept by the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.

Houston is No. 2 in MLB in OPS so far this season, and it has scored 17 runs in two games against Boston.

The Red Sox have struggled on offense, but they’ll have ace Garrett Crochet (who led them to their lone win this season) on the mound on Wednesday afternoon.

He’ll match up with Mike Burrows (7.94 ERA), and oddsmakers have set the Red Sox as favorites on the road.

Here’s a look at the odds, a player prop to bet and my prediction for Wednesday’s matchup.

Red Sox vs. Astros Best MLB Prop Bet

Red Sox Best MLB Prop Bet

  • Roman Anthony to Hit a Home Run (+416)

Can Roman Anthony break out of his early-season slump? He’s one of my favorite long shot picks to hit a homer on Wednesday:

Boston Red Sox youngster Roman Anthony is off to a slow start in the 2026 season, hitting just .190 with 11 strikeouts in 21 at bats. However, he could get back on track against the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.

Houston has righty Mike Burrows on the mound, and he was touched up in his 2026 debut, allowing nine hits, five runs and two homers across 5.2 innings of work.

Anthony hit just eight homers last season, but he’s hitting over .275 against right-handed pitching in his career. This is more of a long shot play, but I like fading Burrows and the Houston pitching staff since the Astros’ bullpen has allowed six homers already this season.

Red Sox vs. Astros Prediction and Pick

Boston hasn’t won a game since Crochet’s last start, but the lefty was dominant in that outing against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing just three hits across six innings of work while striking out eight.

Crochet led Boston to a 23-9 record in his regular-season starts in the 2025 season, and he’s clearly the better starter in this matchup.

Burrows allowed nine hits, five runs, two walks and two homers in 5.2 innings in his 2026 debut, and righty has a 4.11 ERA for his career.

While Boston’s offense has struggled early in the season, I don’t want to fade Crochet, who is clearly one of the best pitchers in the AL.

I’ll take the Sox to steal this series finale on the road.

Pick: Red Sox Moneyline (-156 at DraftKings)
