Reds vs. White Sox Prediction, Odds, Probable Pitchers, Prop Bets for Thursday, Aug. 13

In this story:
The Chicago White Sox evened their series with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, setting up a rubber match on Thursday afternoon in Chicago.
The Reds are under .500 this season and on the outside of the wild card race in the National League, sitting 5.5 games out of the No. 3 spot entering this contest. Meanwhile, the White Sox are in first place in the AL Central and have a 3.5-game cushion over both the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers.
The White Sox will look to keep things rolling on Thursday with right-hander Davis Martin (4.17 ERA) on the mound against Reds southpaw Andrew Abbott (3.92 ERA). Both of these starters have shaky expected ERAs in the 2026 season, but oddsmakers have set Chicago as a small favorite at home.
Here’s a breakdown of the odds, a player prop to bet and a prediction for this series finale on Thursday afternoon.

Reds vs. White Sox Best MLB Prop Bets
White Sox Best MLB Prop Bet
- Davis Martin UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts (+106)
The Reds have the worst strikeout rate in MLB this season, but I can’t pass up this prop at plus-money for Martin.
The White Sox starter has struggled mightily since June 1, punching out just 37 batters in 55.1 innings of work, and he’s only picked up five or more strikeouts in three of his 12 outings.
Martin sits in the 37th percentile in strikeout percentage this season, and he has one strikeout in each of his two outings this month.
Cincy is very prone to the punchout, but I doubt Martin will last long enough into this game to clear this line on Thursday.
Reds vs. White Sox Prediction and Pick
The White Sox have hit the OVER in 57.3 percent of their games – the most in MLB – and I think we could see a high-scoring matchup in this series finale.
Both of these starters have pretty shaky advanced numbers this season, and Martin has even seen his actual ERA cross over 4.00 this season. Martin ranks in the 28th percentile in expected ERA and the 12th percentile in expected BAA this season while Abbott is in the 25th and 26th percentile in those respective categories.
Since June 1, Martin has made 12 starts, allowing four or more runs in six of them while posting a 6.83 ERA. The White Sox have a much better offense than the Reds (12th in Weighted Runs Created Plus) which has allowed them to stay afloat in some of Martin’s outings despite him struggling.
Cincy is dead last in the league in wRC+, but it still has hit the OVER in 53.0 percent of its games.
I’ll fade these two starts on Thursday afternoon, especially since one of the two games in this series has gone OVER this number.
Pick: OVER 8.5 (-105 at DraftKings)
