Valkyries vs. Lynx Prediction, Odds, Best WNBA Prop Bet for Monday, Aug. 24

In this story:
Olivia Miles and the Minnesota Lynx are running away with the No. 1 seed in the WNBA, and they could clinch the top spot on Monday with a win over the No. 2-seeded Golden State Valkyries.
Golden State has a half-game lead over the Las Vegas Aces (the defending champions) for the No. 2 spot, but it has dropped back-to-back games heading into a potential WNBA Finals preview on Monday.
Minnesota is a perfect 3-0 against the Valkyries this season, winning by 11 points on the road in their last meeting back on Aug. 19. Minnesota also has wins by three (at home) and six (on the road) over Veronica Burton and Co. this season.
The month of August has been kind to Napheesa Collier and the Lynx, as they’ve won six games in a row while improving their net rating to a league-best plus-10.7. Oddsmakers have set the Lynx as favorites at home in this matchup, but they’ll be without starting guard Courtney Williams (foot) in this matchup.
Here’s a quick look at the odds, injuries, a player prop to consider and my prediction for this Western Conference showdown on Monday night.

- Gabby Williams UNDER 13.5 Points (-113)
Valkyries star forward Gabby Williams has put together a strong season, averaging 14.4 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from 3.
While Williams’ efficiency has dipped a bit as of late, she’s been one of the more consistent offensive options for this Golden State team. So, it was pretty shocking when she played less than 14 minutes in the team’s most recent loss to the Chicago Sky, finishing with just two points.
When asked about Gabby Williams, Natalie Nakase mentioned wanting players with "fresh legs" to be in the game.

She said Williams' short stint tonight had nothing to do with an injury. https://t.co/TlkLTaf6XN
Even though it appears that Williams was held out for rest, she is coming off back-to-back poor shooting performances. The former UConn star was just 4-for-15 in a loss to the Lynx on Aug. 19, finishing with 10 points. She’s been held under 13.5 points in two of her three games against Minnesota (five, 15 and 10 points) while shooting a combined 12-for-41 from the field. The volume is there, but Williams has clearly been frustrated by a Lynx team that is No. 2 in the WNBA in defensive rating and No. 3 in opponent points per game.
Overall, Williams has 14 or more points in 20 of her 34 games this season, but she’s averaging just 12.4 points in 23.1 minutes per game since July 1.
I think she’s a pretty clear fade candidate against this dominant Minnesota team.
Valkyries vs. Lynx Prediction and Pick
Minnesota hasn’t been nearly as dominant against the spread when favored at home (8-9) this season as you’d expect, but I’m going to side with the Lynx at this price on Monday.
Minnesota picked up a huge road win over the Valkyries last week, setting up a chance to clinch the top spot in the league with several games still left in the regular season. The Lynx are No. 1 in the WNBA in net rating and No. 2 in both offensive and defensive rating this season.
They’re one of the few teams that can defend at the same level as this Golden State squad, which is allowing just 76.6 points per game.
The problem? Golden State lacks an offensive engine like Miles or Collier to help it against the top teams in the W.
This season, the Valkyries are 0-3 against the Lynx and 0-3 against the Aces, a sign that they may not be the second-best team in the W, even though their record currently says that they are.
This spread is a little shorter since Courtney Williams is out, but Minnesota has the talent to win this game by multiple possessions. After an 11-point road win over Golden State last week, the Lynx are a great bet to cover at home on Monday.
Pick: Lynx -5.5 (-118 at DraftKings)
