No. 1 Michigan State is undefeated no longer.

The Spartans took their first loss in 14 games on Tuesday night, falling to the Iowa Hawkeyes 83–70 in Iowa.

Junior Eron Harris scored a team-high 21 points, and senior Matt Costello added a career-best 17 points, but it was not enough to overcome Iowa’s strong offensive charge.

Hawkeyes senior Mike Gesell scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, while bigman Jarrod Uthoff tallied five blocks.

It was the second game Michigan State had played without star senior guard Denzel Valentine, who is out after undergoing surgery on his left knee last week.

The team survived a scare last Tuesday, escaping with a 99–93 overtime win at home against Oakland.

Next up for the Spartans is a visit to Minnesota at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
